EPIC IIsystem
The EPIC II (Electrostatic PrecipitatorIntegrated Controller) system is an ALSTOM Power second generationmicroprocessor based control system for electrostaticprecipitators. With a separate control unit and display unit, a newdegree of design freedom is achieved.
The new EPIC II concept consists of two major components of whichonly one is needed for basic operation.
- EPIC II main unit, includes all processing power.
- Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), needed only as an operatorinterface.
One RTU can serve as the operator interface for many EPICs ProMo,colour graphic software package, host computer gateways withdifferent software protocol and MTU, Master Terminal Unit isavailable as an option.
EPIC IIcontroller
The EPIC II is a microprocessorbased unit for regulation and control of the electric power inputto electrostatic precipitators. The EPIC II maintains the sparkrate at a suitable level for large variations of gas temperature,dust composition, gas flow, etc. It regulates the rectifier in sucha way that the current through the electrostatic
precipitator is corrected as the conditions for sparking whole operation can be monitored by the RTU , ProMo and hostcomputers.
The EPIC II gives alarm messages to the operator when values arelower or higher than set, if one or several alarm contacts areactivated etc. All alarm messages are displayed on and may be resetfrom RTU, ProMo, etc.
Six operating modes can be predefined and then selected for eachinpidual EPIC II.
The EPIC II has a Master function which means that one EPIC II,defined as master unit, can control all EPIC IIs in the FlktBussystem and achieve greater total ESP performance.
Operation together with the optional EPOQ algorithm, ElectrostaticPrecipitator
Optimizing Q, optimizes the best collection efficiency at differentload conditions.
The EPIC II contains one circuit board mounted in the circuit board holds all functions needed for the completecontroller:
Power Supply feed from 24V AC or DC.
One 16 bit Microprocessor with software.
One 16 bit Microcontroller with software.
Data acquisition analog and digital.
Ignition circuits for the SCR.
Non-Volatile Memory (EEPROM, no battery needed) for storing ofsystem parameters.
Non-Volatile Memory (EPROM) for storage of control software.
Real Time Clock (capacitor backed, no battery needed.
Field Bus Communication (FlktBus) for communication with RTU,ProMo, Gateway and other connected EPIC II units
